The Krew is proud to present the first KDE4 release of your favourite file manager! This beta is all about porting, all dependencies to the Qt3 support libs have been removed. This is also the first release that comes with experimental support for the Windows platform. Who thought that day will ever come?

Even though this release contains some new features our main focus is to create a stable KDE4 version. Overall the release is usable but surely contains bugs that haven't been present in prior versions. Please provide us bug reports, feedback and patches to make it as solid as the KDE3 version. Many thanks to everyone who supported us in the porting process!

Highlights:
  • A first version of the long awaited queue manager
  • Five different sorting methods
  • Highlight quick search match
  • Possibility to select a predefined mouse selection mode and change a detail
  • Fine tuning in the Useractions
  • Many many bugfixes
Changes since 2.0.0-beta1 (but not limited to):
  • Ported to KDE4 not using any of the Qt3 support libs
  • Experimental support for the Windows platform
  • Send emails with Thunderbird
  • Attach multiple files to emails
  • Submenus for categories in UserAction menu and context menu
  • Select encoding in content search and krarc
  • New synchronizer shortcuts
  • Complete list of changes and enhancements is in the ChangeLog...

You need to create a i386 package (I'm only using AMD64 so I can't create an i386 deb package)

Install all packages needed to compile krusader
Code:
$ sudo apt-get build-dep krusader

Install all deb building software
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install autotools-dev fakeroot dh-make build-essential

- Download krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810-0intrepid0.tar.gz
- Unpack krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810-0intrepid0.tar.gz
- Enter the krusader source directory

Run the next command

Code:
$ debuild

- Awnser "yes" after a few seconds
- With some luck you will have the i386 deb after about 10 minutes
- You will see an error message that signing the package is failed at the end of the debbuild process (this no problem)
- Go one directory above "cd .." , and you will see the i386 deb package
- Install the created i386 deb package

Note: If it fails to create the deb package, look at the error message, it will tell you wich software you are missing (install the missing package, and run debuild again)

Or wait a few days/weeks for the official Ubuntu package... Usually Ubuntu will follow Debian soon (Krusader-2.0.0-beta2 is in Debian Experimental).

Edit: build-dep

"apt-get build-dep" is a command (it's not a package) , it ask to install all build dependencies, in this case for the krusader package (e.g. the gcc compiler to compile krusader)

Edit: build-dep

For the Krusader Mac port macports.org is used now, for more instructions read the next tread on krusader-devel.

Trying to build the beta2...
I've never tried anything like this before

$ sudo apt-get build-dep krusader
(does things...)

$ sudo apt-get install autotools-dev fakeroot dh-make build-essential
(does things...)

(I download krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810-0intrepid0.tar.gz with firefox)

(I unpack to my home directory opening the .tar.gz with krusader, that opens another window with the contents, does not open it itself like totalcmd, I select "extract to" and my home dir as destiny for the extraction and there is now a ~/krusader-2.0.0-beta2 directory)

$ cd ~/krusader-2.0.0-beta2

$ debuild
The program 'debuild' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install devscripts
-bash: debuild: command not found

(WOW! first bump... it seems to be easy to overcome though)

$ sudo apt-get install devscripts
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
devscripts
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 413kB of archives.
After this operation, 1274kB of additional disk space will be used.

Unpacking devscripts (from .../devscripts_2.10.11ubuntu5.8.04.2_i386.deb) ...
Setting up devscripts (2.10.11ubuntu5.8.04.2) ...

$ debuild
This package has a Debian revision number but there does not seem to be
an appropriate original tar file or .orig directory in the parent directory;
(expected krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810.orig.tar.gz or krusader-2.0.0-beta2.orig)
continue anyway? (y/n) y
dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: quilt cmake libkonq5-dev
debuild: fatal error at line 993:
You do not appear to have all build dependencies properly met, aborting.
(Use -d flag to override.)
If you have the pbuilder package installed you can run
/usr/lib/pbuilder/pbuilder-satisfydepends as root to install the
required packages, or you can do it manually using dpkg or apt using
the error messages just above this message.

OMFG!!!!! what is all that? weren't all the previous installs just to avoid that dependence thing? and now what??? should I try from another directory? there is a krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810-0intrepid0.tar.gz file in the parent directory!!! why does debuild complain?

Isn't an easier way to try the beta? just a package to install or something, like the windows version? tried the "klik" thing but does not work at all (tried some "klik://" urls, not a single one works, so it is not a krusader thing)

I'm using ubuntu i386 hardy heron...

You are almost there ...

You are missing a few packages (and I have forgotten to mention them, sorry) , and so there is a error message ...
Quote:
dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: quilt cmake libkonq5-dev
debuild: fatal error at line 993:
You do not appear to have all build dependencies properly met, aborting.

Run the next command to install the missing packages:
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install quilt cmake libkonq5-dev

Run debuild again
Simply answer "yes" for the tarball (it's a normal question )
Than about 5 to 10 minutes later you will have your Krusader deb package (if everything goes well )

You can also compile from source (read INSTALL file in the krusader source), but a deb package is better for install/uninstall.

When Ubuntu has the latest Krusader package you can simply apt-get krusader (but for the moment it's not yet available, so you need to create one by yourself if you want to use the latest Krusader)

Edit: fixed $ sudo apt-get install

Thanks for your help, I tried again but I still get dumped...

$ sudo apt-get quilt cmake libkonq5-dev
E: Invalid operation quilt

Oooops! but wait... there is a solution! I'm a little brighter than initially thought:

$ sudo apt-get install quilt cmake libkonq5-dev
Reading package lists... Done
(... 12MB later...)

$ debuild
This package has a Debian revision number but there does not seem to be
an appropriate original tar file or .orig directory in the parent directory;
(expected krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810.orig.tar.gz or krusader_2.0.0-beta2-ubuntu810-0intrepid0.orig)
continue anyway? (y/n) y
fakeroot debian/rules clean
debian/rules:3: /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/kde4.mk: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `/usr/share/cdbs/1/class/kde4.mk'. Stop.
debuild: fatal error at line 1247:
fakeroot debian/rules clean failed

Wow! it seems my system still needs to install something! what is that kde4.mk file? I have just kde.mk...

I have edited my previous post forgotten to mention "install" ... , sorry

/usr/share/cdbs/1/class/kde4.mk is missing on your system, with the next url you can trace the missing package
http://packages.ubuntu.com/
The result:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents&keywords=kde4.mk&mode=filename&suite=intrepid&arch=any

It belongs to the cdbs package that is required to build deb packages (sorry, i have not mentioned in this tread)
http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/cdbs

Code:
$ sudo apt-get install cdbs

And run debuild again
I hope all required packages are installed now ...
