The Krew is proud to present the first KDE4 release of your favourite file manager! This beta is all about porting, all dependencies to the Qt3 support libs have been removed. This is also the first release that comes with experimental support for the Windows platform. Who thought that day will ever come?
Even though this release contains some new features our main focus is to create a stable KDE4 version. Overall the release is usable but surely contains bugs that haven't been present in prior versions. Please provide us bug reports, feedback and patches to make it as solid as the KDE3 version. Many thanks to everyone who supported us in the porting process!
Highlights:
- Ported to KDE4 not using any of the Qt3 support libs
- Experimental support for the Windows platform
- Send emails with Thunderbird
- Attach multiple files to emails
- Submenus for categories in UserAction menu and context menu
- Select encoding in content search and krarc
- New synchronizer shortcuts
- Complete list of changes and enhancements is in the ChangeLog...

We usually provide the source only and some builds for Debian if we can. This time however, nobody seems to have the proper environment ready. The build system has changed quite a bit with KDE4.
That said, if anyone can send me a binary package, i'd be glad to put it online. |

The INSTALL file in the source package contains all the needed information to compile Krusader-2.x (even if you compile for the first time it should work, i tried to add all the needed details).
btw. this detailed install info is currently not available on the online handbook on our website (only available in the source package). |

Our download section now contains a binary for Mac OS X (ppc, not intel) of krusader-2.0.0-beta1. It was build on Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" on a G4 PowerPC processor. It should work on 10.5 "Leopard" too, no clue about older versions though. I promise a universal binary and a proper disk image (.dmg) for the final release
The archive contains an application bundle "krusader.app"; the installation is as easy as with other bundles: Just copy it into your /Application folder, or any other location of your choice. The bundled resources should be found due to a little wrapper script. As of KDE-4.1 this wrapper should no longer be necessary, since my patch to KStandardDirs has made it upstream.
KDE-4 binaries (you need at least kdelibs and its dependencies) are available at http://mac.kde.org |

If you follow the compile instructions of the INSTALL file, then it is also possible to use Krusader-2 on your computer.
It's written based on my install experience on (K)ubuntu 8.04
http://krusader.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/krusader/trunk/krusader_kde4/INSTALL?view=markup
btw. ViewSVN is sometimes down on Sourceforge but they are working on it to solve te problem.
I tried to update Kubuntu 8.04 to KDE4.1-beta1 in the past, what eventually was possible after some trouble, but than i was missing some important files that where needed to compile Krusader, So i'm back on Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE4.0 + apt-get updates
Normally i use Debian, but entered several times in a dependency hell when trying to apt-get KDE4. |

Hi
I'm looking forward to having Krusader native on my Intel Mac. Unfortunately the PPC binary provided on the download page doesn't seem to work on a intel Mac. I was looking for installation instructions for building Krusader 2 on a Mac, but the relevant section in the INSTALL file is still under construction. Do the "generic" installation instructions for Linux and BSD platforms also work on a Mac? If so, where can I get the required packages (zlib1g-dev, gettext, kdelibs5-dev, libphonon-dev etc.)? Do I have to use Fink in any way? Thanks for your reply. |

Hi,
the new installation instructions got into our handbook two days ago (handbook on the website not updated yet).
Here you'll find my first announcement of a mac version.
A good starting point is also http://mac.kde.org/ This is where you can get KDE (universal) binaries from.
To build yourself, here is a quick summary:
Basically one have to follow this guide:
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Build/KDE4/Mac_OS_X
I've installed the dependencies (including cmake) with Fink
http://www.finkproject.org/
Qt-4 was installed using the binaries from http://mac.kde.org/
Once kdelibs and it's dependencies are up and running, one can proceed with the step "#Setting_Up_Your_Build_Environment" and "#Building_kdelibs" (here replacing "kdelibs" by "krusader" )
It's not that detailed now, but it should give you the necessary pointer. I have never build anything on an intel mac though, neither for 10.5 "Leopard". It would be great if you could complete the install/build instructions with what you experienced, it may be a good addition to my biased developer view. |

I'm a litte confused about the building instructions you gave: In [1] at the beginning, the required third party tools are listed. Is it sufficient to install the binaries from [2] in order to satisfy the requirements listed there? If so, which of the KDE/Mac binaries do I have to install? Note that there are no stringi, blitz or soprano packages as mentioned in [1] available at [2]. If installation of the KDE/Mac binaries is not sufficient, would I then install the required third party tools using Fink?
Concerning the section "Verify Compiler version" in [1]: I have neither Fink 10.4 nor 10.4-transitional, but 10.5. What do I have to do here?
About Qt: Again, is it sufficient to install the qt binary provided at [2] or do I have to go through the whole process mentioned in [1], section "Qt/Mac ..."?
Same with Cmake: I guess, if I install Cmake via Fink, I don't need to go through the "Cmake" section in [1], right?
[1] http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Build/KDE4/Mac_OS_X
[2] http://mac.kde.org/
Sorry if this sounds a bit ignorant but I'm not so familiar with compiling (former Windows user ). But perhaps you understand my problems and have a few quick hints. Thanks in advance.
Oh, by the way, I'm not sure if this thread is the right place to make such a post. If not, I'm sorry for that. |

MAC install instructions are not available in the Krusader-2.0.0-beta1 package but they are available in SNV

Thanks, I found the instructions, they are essentially the same as posted in this thread by jbaehr. I followed the instructions in [1] (see above for references), installed the third party tools including cmake via fink (not using any of the *.pkg files mentioned in [1]), ignored the section "Verify compiler version", patched and compiled Qt 4.4.0 exactly as described in [1], also built Cmake as described in [1], set up the environment adding "/sw/fink/{bin/lib/include}" to the PATH, CMAKE_LIBRARY_PATH and CMAKE_INCLUDE_PATH, respectively and finally tried to build kdelibs as described in section "Building kdelibs". I get the following error:
[ 13%] Generating kwallet_interface.cpp, kwallet_interface.h
Cannot find libdbus-1 in your system to resolve symbol 'dbus_signature_validate_single'.
make[2]: *** [kdeui/kwallet_interface.cpp] Error 1
make[1]: *** [kdeui/CMakeFiles/kdeui.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2
I found not much about this on the web, on http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-mac/2008-May/000044.html someone writes "You have to build qt-copy adding the 'dbus-linked' option". Is this relevant and if so, what exactly does this mean? They also talk about the dbus stuff provided by Fink to be too old in this thread. What do you think? Can you give me some help on that?
Something else: Since there are binaries for qt, kdelibs and its dependencies available at [2], do I nevertheless have to go through the whole process in [1] just to build Krusader? Doesn't it suffice to install the binaries and then compile Krusader? |
