We are pleased to announce the second release of your favourite file manager for KDE4! This version is the first one after moving the development to kde-extragear. It is a well balanced mix of stabilization and new features.

Being a beta release we ask you to provide bug reports, feedback and patches to make the upcoming stable as solid as possible.

Highlights:
  • Stabilization and code consistency
  • Old views have been replaced by the interviews
  • A new fast text and hex viewer called Lister
  • Queued archive handling, which in addition is job based now
  • Improved tab support, including locked tabs
  • Better trash integration

I'm afraid it didn't make it into the release. As we're not in a freeze yet, chances are good that it will be included in the second beta. I've mentioned it on krusader-devel.

is this release going to enable folks to easily package krusader for 'The KDE on Windows Project'?

I don't think so, from what i read the port is still very fragile. The release includes a few Windows related patches though.

is there a krusader dev who might like to give the 'The KDE on Windows Project' port more attention? or is this task better handled by a member of the 'The KDE on Windows Project' team?

i don't have a sense of where the fragility resides.

We need more Krusader developers ...
http://www.krusader.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2337
And hopefully one developer who takes care the Windows stuff.
We already have received some patches from the KDE Windows project, but there is still much work todo.
If you want to use Krusader on Windows you need to compile it (read the INSTALL file for detailed information).
http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/utils/krusader/INSTALL?view=markup

Currently you should consider Krusader on Windows as alpha-software (it works, but is almost not tested).

Krusader will probably be added in the KDEWin installer (very easy to install), but not for the moment.

For the moment I can only recommend to use Total Commander on Windows.

There are some changes in 2.1.0_beta1 regarding file renaming.
1. F9 selects only part of filename, without extension, now.
2. Two clicks on file (not double click, but two "slow" clicks) do nothing now. (In 2.0.0 and before it was a similarity of pressing F9).
3. In old versions (2.0.0 and before) it was possible to enter "renaming mode" by pressing F9, change something in filename, switch to another application, copy something from there, return to krusader and paste it to filename. But now it is impossible because krusader exits "renaming mode" when it's window loose focus.

Is it possible to return pts. 2 & 3 to "old style" through config file or some another way?

That's a bug. There's an option in Konfigurator to change this behaviour, but it has no effect anymore, the extension never becomes selected.

Works for me, two long left clicks trigger the rename action.

Yes that's nasty. As it was much more comfortable before, i'd count that as a bug, too.

Strangely... It doesn't work for me, but in 2.0.0 version it works.

Suggestion: may be to place hint to the general settings tab that minimum lister file size (defaults to 10 MB) works only in 'text mode'? (:
